We decided to head up to the mountain, after work on Friday... We knew traffic would be a "bear" but felt like we wanted to get up there anyway. We arrived after dark - but the kiddos were SO anxious to get up there, they were "into" the trip.
When we arrived, it felt so good to walk in the door. It was in good order and felt so cozy. I was half expecting there to be spider, cob webs, and "that" musty smell awaiting us. So I was pleasantly surprised to find it "almost" without spiders, no cob webs, and no icky smells! Yay - the remodel worked! :-)
Joe played Chinese Checkers w/ Samuel, and we all enjoyed hot chocolate before the kiddos decided it was time for bed (they were excited to get into their "cabin" beds!) The boys are in the River Room, and Rachel sleeps in a cot in the bedroom w/ us. After that, Joe and I decided to attempt a board game (Tribond.) It was a crazy moment when we realized it had been years since we had played a game together... I mean years. So we played 2 mean games before calling it a night.
In the morning, the kiddos all woke up at 6am (I think Rachel secretly snuck out of our room and woke the boys up...) And while on school morning's that is fine - a peaceful cabin weekend, meant the best thing was to start the movie "Up" and allow us another hour of sleep!
So we got up at 7am, I made some breakfast, and we got ready to head out the door...
We ended up at the Salmon River Trail (we had no idea where we would end up when we went out the cabin door.) And it was amazing - perfect. It was a tad rainy, but it would stop on occasion - and the sun even managed to come out at times. The trail followed the river and we were able to go down to it and appreciate the rapids. The kids had a great time and Luke only managed to trip twice! :-)
Afterward, Joe took us to the Zig Zag Cafe for some hot chocolate and bacon (requested by Samuel.) It was a nice way to end the hike.
When we got back, Joe worked on clearing out the gutters and getting the needles off of the roof. A big job, but much easier when we can do it every month or so. I worked on cleaning up the inside, while the kids played here and there (and we even made it through a couple of fights, which earned some time quite on the couches.)
It was a really nice night/day... I wish we had more time, but we were glad to take advantage of the time we did have! It is such a magical little place. We are very thankful that we get to enjoy such a lovely piece of earth!
